About Us
Recent Accomplishments
The UAA has won several major victories in the past few years that will
save property owners hundreds of thousands of dollars over the next few years.
By winning these victories we have catapulted ourselves into prime position
to achieve success on other key issues in Utah.
Some of our recent accomplishments include:
- Successfully lobbied to change Midvale’s Application Fee Ban to allow owners who participate in the crime free housing program to charge application fees.
- June 2005. Pushed through Senate Bill 52, changing the ways cities can charge business license fees on apartments. This bill will save owners millions of dollars in fees in the next ten years!
- March 2005. Successfully overturned the Application Fee ban for most owners in unincorporated Salt Lake County. This ordinance banned owners of nearly 40,000 rental units from recouping background check expenses.
- Succeeded in invalidating a $60 per door business license tax in West Jordan and forced the City into returning improperly collected fees of tens of thousands of dollars to owners.
- Successfully lobbied Provo City to eliminate an owner pay per inspection charge proposed for apartments that could have been abused by tenants. Fought down-zoning of Provo neighborhoods to eliminate rentals. Provos Mayor has now twice supported the industry and the UAA by vetoing such measures.
- Forced Bluffdale City to invalidate its door tax business license fee schedule; which would have been the largest fee for owners in Utah.
- Forged alliances with the most powerful real estate lobbying groups in Utah; including the Utah Association of Realtors and the Salt Lake Association of Realtors.
